The glorious history of Assam Police is inextricably woven with the history of the Nation & North-East in general and that of present day Assam in particular. While Policing did exist in the days of Ahom kings, a modern Police came into existence with the coming of the British rulers. From humble origins, the force has grown from strength to strength tackling new challenges and crisis ranging from maintenance of law & order and prevention of crimes to tackling insurgency, violent ethnic movements and mass movements of unprecedented dimensions.
